Sonya Yoncheva was "outstanding" at Chorégies d’Orange Gala Concert (Opera News review)

The Bulgarian soprano was outstanding in extracts from Hérodiade, Le Cid and Manon, sung in reasonable French with wind defying vocal splendor. The first half suited Pirgu less well, his light tenor voice sounded taxed by his aria from Massenet's Werther ... Second-half highlights included Tosca’s “Vissi d’arte”—an item that sounds ready for the soprano’s opera-house repertoire—and Magda’s aria from Puccini’s Rondine ... 

The Act I duet from Verdi’s Rigoletto confirmed the lyrical qualities of Pirgu’s duke, and Yoncheva’s girlish Gilda finished the evening with a barn storming top D flat ..."
