“A last minute sensation! – She is the real deal“ exclaimed The New York Times after rising star Sonya Yoncheva stepped in last-minute at the MET as Mimì in Puccini’s La bohème in November 2014.
Her début solo recording was released in early 2015 - a declaration of love to the glamour of 19th-century Paris and the immortal operas it gave to the world. On this album, Sonya Yoncheva pays homage to the city where her vertiginous career took off, highlighting Paris as a source of inspiration and as the world capital of opera at the time. Her personal selection includes both world-famous Italian works set in the city (La traviata and La bohème) as well as operas written or premiered there (Sapho, Le Cid, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Thaïs, Madame Chrysanthème).
