Sonya Yoncheva appears in “Hommage Daniel Barenboim” in Salzburg

On May 29, Sonya Yoncheva appears in a star-studded gala concert at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, paying tribute to legendary conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim.

Sonya will sing Ciò-Ciò San’s aria “Un bel dì vedremo” from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly with the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino led by Zubin Mehta. Other artists appearing at the concert include Cecilia Bartoli, Rolando Villazón, Plácido Domingo, Martha Argerich and Lang Lang.

Daniel Barenboim has been playing an important role in Sonya Yoncheva’s career. He invited her to sing Violetta in a new production of La traviata at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in 2015 led by the Maestro, causing a stir, with the international press lauding her as the “best Violetta since Maria Callas” (Die Welt). Daniel Barenboim also conducted the Staatsoper Unter den Linden’s new staging of Cherubini’s Médée with Sonya Yoncheva in the title role, now one of her most celebrated roles.
