Sonya Yoncheva sings Handel at Munich Opera Festival

On July 13, Sonya Yoncheva returns to the Munich Opera Festival to present a Handel solo program with Les Arts Florissants and William Christie at the Prinzregententheater.

The program will include Sonya singing “Ombra mai fu” from Serse, “Pensieri, voi mi tormentate” from Agrippina, “Non disperar, chi sa?” and “Che sento … Se pietà di me non senti” from Giulio Cesare, “Ah mio cor, schernito sei” and “Tornami a vagheggiar” from Alcina as well as “Lascia ch’io pianga” from Rinaldo.

Sonya Yoncheva started her career as an alumna of William Christie’s Le Jardin des Voix, performing on numerous occasions with the conductor. Among their more recent collaborations is a new production of Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Salzburg Festival 2018 with Sonya in the title role.

Handel has been playing an important part throughout Sonya’s career, with star turns in roles such as Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare or Poppea in Agrippina. In 2017, her celebrated Handel solo album was published on Sony Classical.
