Mimì and Ciò-Ciò-San in Varna
Sonya Yoncheva will return to Varna, this summer in two Puccini roles, as Mimì in La bohème on August 6 and in the title role of Madama Butterfly on August 10. The performance of La bohème will be conducted by Krastin Nastev, while Nayden Todorov will lead Madama Butterfly.
During this year’s Puccini centennial, Sonya has been having a special focus on the Lucca-born composer. Apart from Mimì and Ciò-Ciò-San, the soprano sang the title role of Tosca at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Caracalla Festival in Rome, and the Ancient Theatre of Plovdiv. As Mimì, she also starred at the Opera Sofia, and as Madama Butterfly, she received ovations at the Staatsoper Berlin. Sonya has also performed a Puccini Gala with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.
She returns to the Summer Theatre of Varna after a much-lauded opera gala in 2023.
