Sonya Yoncheva takes center stage as Dido in Dido and Aeneas at the Munich Opera Festival. In a production by Krzysztof Warlikowski, Purcell’s opera is paired with Schönberg’s Erwartung, performed by Sara Jakubiak. Performances take place on July 13 and 16. The cast for Dido and Aeneas also includes Günter Papendell, Erika Baikoff, John Holiday, and Elmira Karakhanova. Rinat Shaham appears as Venus, a role created for this staging. Valentin Uryupin conducts.

On June 26, Sonya Yoncheva opened the 2025 Munich Opera Festival with a gala concert hosted by Christine Lagarde and conducted by Stefano Montanari, featuring works by Handel, Monteverdi, Purcell, and Rameau.

A regular guest at the acclaimed festival, Sonya has previously appeared in recital and concert, as well as in roles such as Norma.
