Maddalena in “Andrea Chénier” at the MET
Sonya Yoncheva returns to the Metropolitan Opera, adding a new role to her extensive Met repertoire: Maddalena de Coigny in Andrea Chénier. The season premiere of Nicolas Joël’s production takes place on November 24, with further performances on November 28 and December 3, 6, 9, and 13. The December 13 performance at 1 p.m. local time will be transmitted Live in HD to cinemas around the world.
She performs under the baton of Daniele Rustioni and shares the stage with Piotr Beczała in the title role, Igor Golovatenko as Carlo Gérard, Siphokazi Molteno as La Bersi, Olesya Petrova as Madelon, Brenton Ryan as Incredibile, Guriy Gurev as Roucher, and Maurizio Muraro as Mathieu.
Maddalena marks Sonya’s 12th role at the Met and her second Giordano heroine at the house, following her much-lauded interpretation of Fedora in the 2022/23 season, also with Piotr Beczała in the principal tenor role.
