“Diptyque”: Album led by Domingo Hindoyan
Sonya Yoncheva’s new album Diptyque is released today, 30 October, on Onyx Classics. Recorded with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under Domingo Hindoyan, it brings together rarely heard vocal and orchestral works by Giuseppe Martucci and Joseph Canteloube.
Yoncheva sings Martucci’s La canzone dei ricordi, a cycle of seven songs tracing the memories of a lost love, and Canteloube’s Triptyque, whose three songs evoke summer, moonlight and dawn. The programme also includes Martucci’s orchestral Notturno and the world-premiere recording of Canteloube’s symphonic poem Vers la princesse lointaine.
Their first joint album’s title reflects the relationship between two independent artistic personalities, united as singer and conductor, husband and wife. As they write in the booklet: “We inhabit that space as husband and wife, singer and conductor – two independent sensibilities drawn towards a shared horizon.”
Recorded at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall in February 2025, Diptyque marks Yoncheva’s debut on Onyx Classics. She dedicates the album to her teacher Danielle Borst.
