Puccini open-air Gala in Lucca

On July 26, Sonya Yoncheva will sing a Puccini open-air Gala Concert at the Piazza San Martino of Lucca with tenor Marco Ciaponi and Francesco Ivan Ciampa, who will conduct the Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice. The concert marks the beginning of the approach path to 2024, the year of the Centennial of Maestro Puccini’s death.

The programme will include some of the most beautiful arias, duets and orchestra pieces of the Lucca-born composer, with Sonya starring in “Donde lieta uscì”, “Sì, mi chiamano Mimì” and “O soave fanciulla” from La Bohème, “In quelle trine morbide” and “Sola, perduta, abbandonata” from Manon Lescaut, “Se come voi piccina io fossi” from Le Villi, “Vissi d’arte” from Tosca and “Un bel dì vedremo” from Madama Butterfly.

Sonya Yoncheva has earned worldwide accolades for her dazzling interpretations of some of Puccini’s most iconic heroines, such as Tosca and Mimì in La Bohème. In the next couple of years, she will make her debuts in the title roles of Manon Lescaut and Madama Butterfly.
