Sonya Yoncheva returns to Varna as Tosca and Lisa
A regular guest at the Varna Summer Theatre, Sonya Yoncheva returns to the festival this year on two consecutive evenings in her most performed role, Tosca, and her newest, Lisa in The Queen of Spades.
On August 8, she stars as Puccini’s Roman diva alongside Valery Georgiev as Cavaradossi, Plamen Dimitrov as Scarpia, Evgeni Stanimirov as Angelotti, and Geo Chobanov as the Sacristan. Nayden Todorov conducts the chorus and orchestra of the Varna Opera. The production is directed by Srebrena Sokolova, with designs by Kuzman Popov.
The following evening, August 9, Sonya appears as Lisa, fresh from her acclaimed role debut at the Metropolitan Opera a few months ago. She reunites with Arsen Soghomonyan as Hermann, her co-star from the Met run. The production is directed by Vera Nemirova and conducted by Grigor Palikarov.
