Sonya Yoncheva to sing “La Traviata” in Florence
On July 19, Sonya Yoncheva will reprise one of her most acclaimed roles, Violetta Valéry in La Traviata in a one-off open air concert performance at the Cavea of the Teatro del Maggio in Florence. Sonya will sing with Carlo Rizzi leading the Choir and Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Francesco Demuro as Alfredo Germont and Leo Nucci as Giorgio Germont.
Sonya has sung the role of Violetta all over the world, from the Metropolitan Opera to the Paris Opéra National, the Bavarian State Opera, and the Opernhaus Zürich. For her performances in La Traviata at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, she was praised by Manuel Brug from Die Welt as the “finest Violetta since Maria Callas” and “possibly the best Traviata in the world at present”.
